Narrative

Little is known about Richard beyond his appearance in five entries in the Bishop's Transcripts of the Parish Registers of the Parish Church of St Michael and All Angels, Bishop's Cleeve, Gloucestershire.

In August 1784, Richard REEVE and Elizabeth Reeve Elizabeth COATS were married after Banns in the Parish Church of St Michael and All Angels, Bishop's Cleeve. See Research Note 2 below.
Known children of Richard Reeve and his wife Elizabeth are

1. Mary Reeve, bapt. Jan 1785
2. Richard Reeve, bapt. Jan 1786
3. John Reeve, bapt. Feb 1790, bur. Aug 1790

All three baptisms were at the Parish Church of St Michael and All Angels, Bishop's Cleeve and named both parents. Additionally all three baptisms and the burial note the family were "of Gotherington", a hamlet in the north of the Parish of Bishop's Cleeve.

Research Notes

(1) Richard's birth year of c1760 is an estimate based on his marriage in 1784.

(2) Whilst the contemporary Bishop's Transcript clearly shows Richard's wife as Elizabeth REEVE, another transcript at a subscription web site shows the marriage of Richard REEVE to Elizabeth COATS. It is unlikely this could be a second, as yet unidentified, Richard REEVE since both events share the same date and location. It is more likely a transcription error in one or other of the records. An image of the original Parish Register has yet to be identified to absolutely confirm Elizabeth's identity.

FamilySearch (accessed 28June2020) shows the marriage of Richard REEVE to an Elizabeth REEVE. This is based on their transcription of an image of the Bishops's Transcript for that period. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSNJ-L9MN-4?i=700
However, it would seem this Bishops Transcript contains a transcription error, since the original Parish Register clearly shows shows Richard's wife to be Elizabeth COATS. (Page 2 and item 5 in the original register. Image 90 of 234 at Ancestry.)
