Samuel's wife Susannah died and was buried on 4 August 1822 at Belchamp Walter, Essex. The burial register notes she was 42 years of age (so born c1780). Note that the child William died soon after the mother.

In 1841, Samuel was living in Belchamp Walter, age 58, with his children Eliza (20), William (16), Ann (14), Ellen (12), Harriet (9), and Sophia (6).
In 1851, he was in Belchamp Walter with his daughters Eleanor (22) and Harriet (19) along with he base born child of Eleanor, Thomas (1), who is listed as "son." The census states he was born in Belchamp Otten.
Since Eliza (20) is listed in the 1841 census, she can be matched to the baptism for Eliza daughter of Samuel and Susan. This shows that Samuel was previously married to a Susan. Although there are baptisms for a Samuel and Susan after 1822, it is clear that this Samuel's wife died (see burial in 1822), probably after complications with son William's birth, who also died young. The rest of the baptisms in the parish register listed for a Samuel and Susan are the children of Samuel Reeve and Susan Mansfield.
Later records show that Samuel's daughter Elvina also went by Eleanor. She appears as Eleanor in the 1851 census.
Samuel was buried in 1853 at St Mary the Virgin, Belchamp Walter.
