Narrative

Nothing is presently known with certainty about Samuel's early life. See Research Note 1 below.

The marriage of Samuel REEVE and Eliza NIXON took place in December 1816 at the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, Ixworth, Suffolk.
The known children of Samuel REEVE and his wife Eliza (nee NIXON) are
  1. Jeffrey REEVE, born c1821
  2. Samuel REEVE, born c1826
  3. Walter REEVE, born c 1828
  4. Betsey/Betsy REEVE, born c1831
  5. John REEVE, born c1834
Baptismal records have yet to be identified for these children and the above relationships are based on census returns alone.

On the 1841 census taken on 6 June, Samuel, Eliza and family are living on Stow Lane in Ixworth. Samuel's age is noted to be 50 and he was born in county (Suffolk). He was working as a Butcher. Eliza is (40, born Suffolk) and the other members of the household are Jeffrey (20, Suffolk), Samuel (15, Suffolk), Walter (13, Suffolk), Betsy (sic) (10, Suffolk) nad finally John (7, Suffolk).

At the time of the 1851 census, on 30 March, Samuel and Eliza REEVE are living on High Street, Ixworth. Samuel is 61 years old, claims birth in Ixworth and is working as a Master Butcher. His wife Eliza is 54 and was born in the neighbouring parish of Pakenham. Their son Walter is 23, unmarried and working as an Agricultural Labourer an their daughter Betsey (sic) is 20 and unmarried. Both children were born in Ixworth. The household is completed by Charles NIXON whose relationship is given as Father in Law. Charles is 77 years of age, is a Retired Thatcher and claims birth in Isleham, Cambridgeshire.

Samuel has not been identified on the 1861 census and the GRO Index notes the death of a Samuel REEVE during the third quarter of 1852 in Thingoe Registration District. He was aged 63, which is a good match to this individual

Research Notes

(1) It is possible he is the Samuel REEVE, the son of Francis and Elizabeth REEVE who was baptised at the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, Ixworth in August 1792. However further research would be necessary to positively confirm this relationship. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V522-K1X
