Narrative

Name: I suspect that his middle name, Porteous, was chosen to honour his uncle, his mother's brother, Porteous P. Bielby, who was a physician, with the US Navy at the time he was born.
Education: He was educated at Trinity College, the University of Toronto, and Episcopal Theological Seminary, Cambridge, Massachusetts, earning a B.A., B.D. and M.A.
Marriage 1896: He married Katharine Morgan Wright, eldest daughter of Reuben Garrett Wright of Napanee, on November 11, 1896 in Watertown Massachusetts, USA.
Ordained 1897: He was ordained an Anglican priest in 1897. He served as missionary at Sydenham and Oxford Mills, Ontario and as rector at St. James, Kemptville, Ontario (1907-08) and at St. Matthews, Brandon, Manitoba. He is described in the Churchman publication: "Cultured and studious; has a good voice and ready flow of language to express well ripened thought". From the fact that his daughter Mary was reported as born at Kemptville in October 1903 and his son William was also reported as born at Kemptville in April 1908, I infer that the move to the position at Oxford Mills occured about 1903.
Children: William Porteous and Katharine had five children:

5. William Albert.

1913: In August 1913 William suddenly left his family in Brandon, Manitoba and moved to Ontario and then Florida.
Divorce about 1918: About 1918 before Feb 1916: William obtained a divorce from Katharine and in February 1916 married another woman, apparently without Katharine's knowledge, in Pinellas, Florida. This episode was an embarrassment and scandal for the whole family. The name of his second wife was Annette Ophelia Sperry.
Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery, Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida, USA
