Alfred George Reeves is the fourth of five children (all boys) born to George Reeves and his wife Mary Ann (nee BAKER). His birth was registered during 1877 in the Ryde Sub District of the Isle of Wight Registration District b1, but was not included in the national GRO list until the first quarter of the following yearb2.On each of the census returns 1881, 1891, 1901 & 1911 Alfred is found living with his parents. His age and place of birth are consistent on all four returns. The latter two returns note he was working as a Bricklayer.
Alfred's death is recorded on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's website. He was serving as Private 18625 of the 15th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment and died in February 1918. He is buried in the Giavera British Cemetery, Giavera Del Montello which is now in the Province of Treviso (IT-TV), Italy. The CWGC additionally notes "Son of George and Mary Ann Reeves, of Langbridge, Newchurch, Isle of Wight."
Alfred's sacrifice is recorded on both the Isle of Wight County War Memorial in the Chapel of St Nicholas, Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight and locally within the Parish of Newchurch where he lived all his life. On the County War Memorial he is recorded as "Reeves A" on Panel 11.wm2 On the Newchurch Parish War Memorial he is listed Alfred Reeves along with twenty others who failed to return to Newchurch.wm3 A Book of Remembrance is held within All Saints Church, Newchurch which includes a brief biography of Alfred.wm4
