According to the register of her baptism, Ann was a twin to Mary ReevesOn the 1861 census Ann has strayed to Stoke Damerel in Devon, where she was living with her husband John Short. Her twin sister Mary was recorded as a visitor in the same household. Stoke Damerel is now part of the City of Plymouth.
Ann's marriage to John Short is recorded in the Southampton Registration District in Jul-Sep quarter of 1857.
By the time of the 1881 census, Ann is a widow and has returned to Hampshire. As Ann Short is listed as a visitor in the household of John Crook and his wife Elizabeth (nee Reeves) who is Ann's elder sister.
