A man named John Rutledge, while sitting on a log in the woods in Howland, Ohio, cracking nuts, was shot by Archibald Reeves, who mistook him for a bear.
In the trial report concerning the murder of Archibald Jr. published in several newspapers, "Archibald Reeves, father of Archibald Reeves, Jr., deceased" and "Wm. Reeves, brother of the deceased" testified.
