Asa Reeve along with a William Reaves was among those who petitioned the governor to move the court of Prince William from the Town of Dumfries following the division of Fauquier County from Prince William County on October 14, 1779.

Asa Reeves holds the status of Patriotic Service with the DAR by furnishing supplies to the Militia in Prince William County, and is listed in Abercrombie and Slatton's Virginia Revolutionary Publick Claims, Vol. 3, Pg. 808. Asa Reeves is also listed on the 1783 Personal Property Tax List of Prince William County, VA.

Asa is also on the list of taxpayers for Prince William County in 1788.

On 22 August 1789, Asa and Sarah Reeves sold to William Robinson a tract of 158 acres and ¾, "the said ¾ being reserved by Asa Reeves being a Grave Yard," on Branches of Occoquan, beginning at a corner of John Hammitt and joining Henry Margerum and the west side of the road to Dumfries. William Barnes, Richard Barnes, Jr., William Carr, Asa Blansett, Thomas Marshall, and Benjamin Dockett (perhaps a Doggett cousin) witnessed the deed. (Prince William Co., VA, Deed Book X, 1787-1791, pp. 276-278.) The reference to the graveyard may hold a clue to the resting place of Asa's father George Reeves and other members of his family.

The biography of Asa's grandson Benjamin F. Reeve states: "Near the beginning of the present century his grandfather, Asa Reeve, removed from Virginia to Fleming county, Kentucky, where he died more than forty years ago. He was a most zealous Methodist, and the most of his family embraced the faith in which they were brought up. Two of his sons became Methodist preachers, but Benjamin, the father of Benjamin F., never made any profession of religion; and especially did he not receive the doctrines of the Methodists."

Lois Downey, in her research, has noted that the families of Asa Reeves and his cousin George Reeve all seem to have had a strong attachment to the Methodist faith.

Research Notes

∗ Believed to have been younger than brothers John and Asa Moses, based on the ordering of names in George Reeves' 1751 deed of gift to his children). All three sons were <16 years old when the tithables list for Dettingen Parish, Prince William County VA, was compiled in 1747.
