Augustus is listed with the occupation of cooper on the 1850 census. Later censuses state he was a farmer.

FATAL ACCIDENT. - A child of Mr. Augustus Reeves, late resident of Sag Habor, but now living in Southampton, L. I., a bright active boy, of some 10 or 11 years, was drowned, near nightfall of Wednesday, Dec. 10th, by falling through the ice, while skating on the large sheet of water known as the Town-pond.
