Narrative
Very little is known about Darling Reeves. He first appears as Darling "Rives"on the 1782 tax lists of Cumberland County, North Carolina when he is the only Reeves listed that year. The Cumberland tax list of 1783 records both Darling and Zachariah Reeves and again in 1787 they are both listed. In 1782 Darling was shown with 298 acres, and in both 1783 and 1787 with 450 acres. He appears to be a member of the Bladen or Cumberland county Reeves' family due to his connection to them in deeds as evidenced by a 1787 deed from Zachariah Reeves to Darling Reeves. He was also recorded in the 1790 census of Cumberland County.
The 1790 census of Cumberland County records Darling Reeves' household as containing 1 male over 16 years of age, 2 males under 16 and 2 females. On that 1790 census, Nathaniel and John D. Reeves are listed immediately preceding Darling. Other Reeves recorded in Cumberland County in 1790 were Jesse and George Reeves.
Darling Reeves either died after 1790 or migrated away from North Carolina.
Research Notes
Zachariah Reeves and John D. Reeves who served in the Revolution both stated in their pension applications that they were born in Halifax County NC. Later both are found in Cumberland County along with Darling who may have come from Halifax County as well.Sources
