Child of Delilah Reeves and John Simonus:
  1. Milton Simonus, b. 1801
  2. Basil Simonus, b. 1805
  3. Unknown Son, born before 1810
  4. Unknown Daughter, born before 1810
John Simonus (spelled Samonis) is named as an heir of Thomas Reeves in an 1803 Woodford County deed from the heirs of Thomas Reeves to James Reeves found in Deed Book F at page 196.

The 1810 Census of Franklin County KY lists the following details of the household of John Semonus: 3 males <10, 1 male 26-44, 1 female <10 and 1 female 26-44.

The family is described as 1 male 20-29, 1 male 50-59, 1 female 20-29 and 1 female 50-59 in the 1830 census of the Southern Division of Franklin County and the surname is spelled John "Simonus".

Milton is the only documented child of Delilah and John Simonus for he is named in the 1841 will of her brother James Reeves as his nephew and received several bequests; however, Basil Semones with whom the widowed 80 year old John Semones is living in the 1850 census and also in the 1860 census of Franklin County, Kentucky is undoubtedly another son.

Research Notes

There are a myriad of diverse spellings of this surname in eastern Kentucky during this time period, i.e. Semones, Simonus, Simones, et al. Even searching for any and every variation, it is still extremely difficult to find this family listed in census records.
