Little is known of the life of Dempsey Reeves as he died very young. Sophronia Champion Reeves was widowed before 7 Jun 1849 when she was remarried to Dempsey's cousin John Wiley Reeves, son of Wyatt S. Reeves.

The 1850 census of Randolph County, Alabama lists a 5 year old Mary Reeves in the household of John W. and Sophronia Reeves who is surely Dempsey's child.
