Narrative
Edward Israel REEVES was is the fourth of nine known children of Samuel Reeves and his wife Eliza (nee TRAPP). His birth was registered in the fourth quarter ofOn the 1871 census, Edward appears as a four year old in the household of his parents at Twiggs Lane, Marchwood. His place of birth is shown as Twig(g)s Lane, Hampshire and his occupation is given as Scholar
At the time of the 1881 census, Edward is still living in his parents home on Twig(g)s Lane, Marchwood. He is now 14 years old, born Marchwood, Hampshire and his occupation is "Assistant at Farm", his father Samuel being a Yeoman (farmer of) 10 acres.
Edward has yet to be identified on the 1891 census.
In 1893 Edward Israel Reeves married Elizabeth Annie GARRETT, their marriage is recorded in the second quarter of the year in the Southampton Registration District. Although Elizabeth claims to be Eling lass by birth, she had been working in Domestic Service in Southampton for a number of years.
The known children of Edward Israel REEVES and Elizabeth Annie (nee GARRETT) are :-
- Edward A REEVES, born 1894.
- Charles Bertie REEVES, born 1896.
By the time of the 1901 census Edward, along with his wife Annie and two sons, is living on Harcourt Road in the Bitterne Park area of Southampton. He claims to be 35 years old and born in Marchwood, Hampshire. He is working as a Police Constable.
At the time of the 1911 census, Edward and family have moved round the corner to Macnaghten Road, Bitterne Park, Southampton. He is now 44 years old and claims his birth place as simply "County of Hampshire" (in contrast to his two sons whom he says were born in the "Town of Southampton".) He is employed by the Borough Council as a Police Constable.
His elder son Edward Alex/Alec REEVES served in the Devonshire Regiment during WW1 and was killed in France in March 1915.
It is believed Edward Israel's death is that noted by FreeBMD in the first quarter of 1951, when he was 84 years old.
