Bessy was baptized as Elizabeth Reeves on 10 Feb 1814 in Ilfracombe, Devon. Her parents William Reeves and Bridget are mentioned in the baptism entry.
She married William Cox on 16 Aug 1839 at St John the Evangelist in Lambeth, Surrey.

1. Bevan Charles Cox born 27 Jun 1840 in Lambeth, Surrey (baptised 17 July 1840 at St John the Evangelist, Lambeth).
2. Horace Aubrey Cox born 31 May 1842 in Lambeth, Surrey (baptised 17 June 1842 at St Mary, Lambeth).

In 1841 Bessy and William are living with Bevan in Lambeth. William died at some unknown date between 1842 (he was alive at the time of Horace's baptism) and the 1851 census.

Bessy then appears on the census in 1851 as a widow aged 37 with her two sons Bevan aged 10 and Horace aged 8. They are living in Long Ashton, Somerset (other Reeves family here are her two sisters Mary Anne Kemp and Eliza Reeves at a different address). Bessy is an annuitant.

In 1861 Bessy is a visitor at Sarah Maskelyne's home at Upton House in Tetbury in Gloucestershire.
In 1871 she is back in Long Ashton at Westleaze Lodge living on her own with a servant.

She died as Bessey Cox in Long Ashton in 1876.

Research Notes

There is also a younger sister called Eliza Reeves (not to be confused with Bessy). Bessy was also known as Bessey and Elizabeth.
