Sudden Death of a Respected Citizen.
Death has claimed another victim in our midst, this time in the person of Ezra Warren Reeves, whose life of usefulness suddenly terminated on Saturday evening last, at six o'clock, Mr. Reeves, who lived on his ranch at the outlet of Little Lake valley, ten miles north of Willits. had just finished eating his supper, and repaired to the sitting-room, in his usual health, when he shook as if in a chill, which caused his wife to hasten to his side. In an instant, as it were, he was in the cold embrace of death, stricken down by a stroke of apoplexy, having passed away without the power to utter a word. He was born in Owego, Tiago county, New York, April 3d, 1826, and was 56 years and 6 months old at the time of his death. He came to California and settled in Ukiah in 1873, and for a time acted as book-keeper and salesman for his brother, Tapping Reeves, afterwards purchasing and moving to the ranch on which he died, His remains were brought to Ukiah on Sunday morning, and the funeral took place on Tuesday, from the Presbyterian Church, of which he was a worthy and loved member, Rev. H. B. McBridge officiating. He leaves a wife and three grown sons, a brother and other relatives, and a host of friends to mourn his loss. His death creates a vacancy on the Republican county ticket, he having been the nominee of that party for Treasurer, which office he was in every respect worthy to fill.
