Research Notes

In the 1850 census of Morgan County, Alabama, Bethania Reeves is listed with what appears to be her youngest children. Francis (Frank) M. Reeves is listed in her household that year and many have believed him to be the child of Thomas Reeves and Bethania; however, his Alabama death record recording his death on 27 Feb 1910 names his father as "Hick" or Hickerson. This death certificate establishes Thomas and Bethany Stinson as Francis M. Reeves' grandparents rather than his parents. Also, Thomas and Bethany are not known to have any sons born after around 1820, the male child 10-14 years of age in Bethania Reeves household in 1840 may be Francis M. (Frank).

Based upon the above, it appears that Hickerson Reeves may have been married to an unknown first wife prior to his 1831 marriage to Mary Ann Kirkland. However, probate documents for the estate of Mary Ann Kirkland's father Daniel include Francis, naming him as a grandchild.
