Narrative

NB This individual has not been researched in detail.
George Reeves is the sixth of ten known children of William REEVES and his wife Rachel (nee FLAKE).

On the 1891 census, George appears in his parents' household at 9 Bitterne Terrace, Bitterne. He is 4 years old and was born at St Denys.

At the time of the 1901 census George again appears in his parents household at 9 Bitterne Terrace, Bitterne. He is now 14 years old, again claims birth in St Denys and is working as a General Labourer. He is now the eldest child remaining in his parents' household.

By the time of the 1911 census, George has left the parental home, which was then at 3 Heathlands Terrace, Bath Road, Bitterne.

The "National Roll of the Great War" carries on page 320 of the Southampton volume the following entry in the left hand column
REEVES, G., Private, 2nd Hampshire Regiment

He was called up from the Reserve in August 1914, and was immediately sent to France, where he took part in the Battle of, and Retreat from, Mons, and was wounded, and taken prisoner. During his period of captivity he suffered many hardships and was released after the Armistice. He was discharged in 1919, and holds the Mons Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
3 Bath Road, Bitterne, Hants.                                           X5379A

Research Notes

There are three entries on Page 320 of the Southampton volume of the "National Roll of the Great War" sharing the same address of 3 Bath Road Bitterne and the same reference prefix of X5379. George's parents were living at 3 Heathlands Terrace, Bath Road, Bitterne at the time of the 1911 census and it seems probable they were still living there in 1919.

Entry X5379B is for Reeves, H. and entry X5379C is for Reeves, W.
