Narrative

In 1871, George testified in Warren County, Iowa of his service in the War of 1812. He was eighty-two years of age at the time. He stated that "he is married, that his first wife name was Roxanna Stroud? to whom he was married at Athen County in the State of Ohio on the Seventeenth (17) day of September AD One thousand eight hundred and ten (1810), that his said first wife died about the year AD 1830 - that he was married to his present wife whose name was Catherine Golden in the year AD 1831 at Athens County, in the State of Ohio." He enlisted on the last day of June 1813 in Captain Gregory's Company in Athens, Ohio of the Cavalry under General Tupper.
