Narrative

Harriett is the fourth of five known children of James and Frances Reeves. She was baptised as Harriot in May 1810 at the Parish Church of St George, Didbrook, Gloucestershire.

Harriett has not yet been identified on the 1841 census.

At the time of the 1851 census, taken on 30 March, Harriett appears as a Visitor in the household of Thomas and Mary A HUNT in the village of Toddington. She is 40 years old, unmarried and claims birth in neighbouring parish of Didbrook. She is working as a Corset Maker. See Research Note 1 below.

The GRO Index notes the death of a Harriet Reeve, age 42, in the Winchcomb Reg. Dist. during the second quarter of 1852. There is a corresponding burial in the Parish Register of St George, Didbrook in June 1852 for Harriet Reeve of Toddington, again age 42.

Research Notes

(1) Mary Ann Hunt was prior to her marriage Mary Ann Reeve. If there is a family relationship between Harriett and Mary Ann Hunt (nee Reeve), it is presently unknown. Harriett's parent's, James and Frances, had a daughter Mary Ann, but she was older than Harriett and probably died in 1815.
