Ishmael is listed in Paul Reeve's Southold Militia Company:

• Ishmel Reeve, 5 ft. 11, light, age 23.

He appears in the 1776 census of Suffolk County, living in Southold. There was an older male (b. bef 1726) in the household with him. He was listed next to a Walter Reeve. Wesley Baker suggests he may have been part of the family of John Reeve.

Ishmael wrote his will on 10 Jan 1818 and it was probated 6 Sep 1821 in Tompkins County, New York. Ishmael states he was living in Lansing in Tompkins County. He mentions his wife Elizabeth, daughter Hannah Bashford, and grandsons Samuel and John Bashford.
