John Reeves is first recorded in the 1840 census. He is the white male under 5, his mother Siotha Combs Reeves is the HOH. Siotha remarried 14 Jan 1849, Madison County, Missouri to Elisha Spiva.
John is recorded in the 1850 census as a 12 year old and his surname is recorded as Spiva. John married 15 Jul 1854, Nancy Griffie in Madison County, Missouri. John was sixteen years of age.
In 1870 John has relocated to Murphysboro, Jackson, Illinois with his wife and five children and is farming. The Missouri civil war draft of 1863 shows John as registered and 26 years old, married.
John died in 1903 and is buried at the Glen Carbon, Jackson, Illinois cemetery.

Circumstantial evidence points to John Reeves as being the grandson of John Reeves, son of George Reeves, died 1778 in Wake County, North Carolina. The 1840 Census record, Madison County, Missouri is quite clear that John is the son of Thornberry Reeves. TRP researchers located an 1854 last Will and Testament of John Reeves, Taylor County, Kentucky which named Thornberry as a now deceased son. Thornberry's heirs were to receive nothing from the estate, mainly because John had already given Thornberry his portion. This will establishes Thornberry as the son of John Reeves who died in Taylor County, Kentucky.Sources
