John is recorded in the 1850 census as a 12 year old and his surname is recorded as Spiva. John married 15 Jul 1854, Nancy Griffie in Madison County, Missouri. John was sixteen years of age. In 1870 John has relocated to Murphysboro, Jackson, Illinois with his wife and five children and is farming. The Missouri civil war draft of 1863 shows John as registered and 26 years old, married. John died in 1903 and is buried at the Glen Carbon, Jackson, Illinois cemetery.
