John REEVES, the son of William REEVES and Hannah (nee MORRIS) was baptised at the Parish Church of All Saints, Newchurch, IoW, Hampshire in May 1824

On the 1841 census taken on 6 June, John appears in a family context at the home of his parents William & Hannah along with six siblings at Marsley in the Newchurch parish. He is recorded as 17 years old and born in county (Hampshire).

During the first quarter of 1850, the marriage of John Reeves to Ellen GALLEY is recorded in the Isle of Wight Registration District. The IoW Family History Society's index of Marriage Registrations suggests this marriage took place either in the Register Office, a non-conformist or RC church. There are no known offspring from this union.

At the time of the 1851 census, on 30 March, John (aged 26) along with his wife Ellen (25) and nephew Jabez C GALLEY were living on Johns Road at Ryde, IoW, Hampshire. John's place of birth is simply recorded as IoW and his occupation is Grocer.

(The birth of Jabez Charles GALLEY was registered in 1848, when his mother's maiden name was recorded as COOPER, so in all probability he is the son of Ellen's brother MARK GALLEY, who died in 1850, and his wife Charlotte nee COOPER.)

John has not been identified on the 1861 and the IoW Family History Society records in their Index to Death Registrations the death of a John Reeves in 1858, aged 34 years, in the Ryde sub-district, which strongly matches this individual.
