Narrative
John Reeves is the first known child of his parents Richard Reeves and Ann (nee EVANS). See Research Note 1 below. The birth of John REEVES was registered in the Stourbridge Registration during the second quarter of 1838. The GRO Index to Births notes his mother's maiden name was EVANS. John's birth certificate confirms he was born on 19 April 1838 at "The Level" in the Kingswinford Registrar's District. His father is confirmed as Richard Reeves, a miner, and his mother as Ann Reeves formerly EVANS. The birth was registered by his mother on 23 May 1838 and she made her mark in the register.
Thus far no record of John being baptised as an infant has been identified. See Research Note 2 below.
On the 1841 census taken on 6 June, John is found with his parents Richard and Ann living at Crowley Plain, Kingswinford, Staffordshire. His younger brother Joseph completes the household.
At the time of the 1851 census John is NOT recorded in his parents household at Greets Green in the West Bromwich Parish of Christ Church.
Research Notes
NB This individual may turn out to be the same person as Joseph John Reeves, but much of the detail seems to differ and the intention is to explore those differences on this page.
(1) John's parents Richard Reeves and Ann EVANS were married on 03 December 1837 at Parish Church of All Saints, Sedgley, Staffordshire.(2) FreeREG does include the baptism of a John Reeves at the Parish Church of St Bartholomew, Wednesbury of 14 January 1838. This is prior to our subject John's registered birth date in April and in any case the parents are listed as William (a miner) and Hannah. NB FreeREG is not exhaustive.
