John, nicknamed Jack was born in Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina. His family moved to Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina during the Second World War, coincidently attended the same grade school and first grade classroom as Carol Ann Neithardt whom he later married. His mother Ruth and Father John relocated to Greer, Greenville County, South Carolina where they raised Jack, his older brother and two younger sisters. Jack attended Greer High School where he played Center on the Varsity football team and he graduated in 1954. Jack was accepted to The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, was elected to The Citadel Honor Court, rose to the rank of Cadet Second Lieutenant and earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1958. Jack and Carol Ann Neithardt were married at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1958. Jack worked as an engineer with the Virginia Highway Department, living in Richmond, VA, Fredericksburg, VA, and Williamsburg, VA. Jack and family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and he worked at Duke Power Company's Nuclear Design Engineering Department and Zapata Engineering. Jack and Carol raised a daughter and a son. Jack died 31 January 2015 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina and was cremated. As they requested, his and wife Carol's ashes were combined and sprinkled in the waters of the Battery in Charleston, South Carolina.
