John lived in Columbia, South Carolina with his older brother Lewis and older sister Dorothy. John attended High School at The Loomis Institute in Windsor, Connecticut and attended college at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration on 5 June 1931. John married Ruth Anne Strong of Baltimore, Maryland on 29 November 1934. John worked in Insurance and he and Ruth raised four children, two sons and two daughters, living in Columbia, South Carolina; Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina and later moved to and settled in Greer, Greenville County, South Carolina. John was a Senior Warden of The Episcopal Church of The Good Shepherd, 200 Cannon Street, Greer, South Carolina. John was buried in Wood Memorial Park, Duncan, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.
