From St Andrew, Holborn, Middlesex Parish Register:
  • The Reverend Jonathan Reeves of the parish of St Andrew Holborn London Batchelor and Elizabeth Stone of the same parish spinster minor were married in this Church by Licence by and with the Consent of Thomas Stone the natural and Lawful Father of the said minor; on the seventh day of June in the year One thousand seven hundred and fifty nine; By me John Bluck Curate This marriage was solemnized between Us; Jonathan Reeves Elizabeth Stone in the presence of us; Christian Traley? Esther (the mark E of) Storer

This marriage is the best match for this couple who soon after this were in Whitechapel, London.

Jonathan wrote his will on 26 Jun 1773 and it was proved 1 Jun 1787. He describes himself as clerk of West Ham, Essex and names only his wife Elizabeth but mentions that he has children. Jonathan Reeves "of King's College in the University of Cambridge Clerk" stated that he was acquainted with him and stated he died "on or about 13 May last." This was dated 1 Jun 1787.

His son Jonathan's entry in the Alumni Cantabrigienses states that he was born in 1763 in Whitechapel, London. We find many of his earlier children's baptisms registered there:
  • (1761, Feb 12) Joseph Thomas Reeves son of Johnathan & Elisabeth Prescot Street borne 22 of January
  • (1762, May 20) Elizabeth Reeves Dr of Jonathan & Elizabeth in Resort? Street born 30 of April
  • (1763, May 1) Jonathan Reeves son of Jonathan & Elizabeth borne April 28 in Mansell? Street
  • (1764, June 21) Hannah Reeves Dr of the Revd Jonathan & Elizabeth Mansell Street

More children were recorded in the West Ham Parish Register after the family had moved:
  • (1766 May) 17 James Reeves son of Revd Joanthan & Elizh
  • (1768 June) 26 Rachel Louisa Reeves dr of Revd Jonathan & Elizabeth
  • (1770 Nov) 14 Thos Reeves s of Jonathan & Eliz
  • (1772 June 7) Joseph Reeves s of Jonathan & Elizh
  • (1774 June 5) John Reeves s of Jonathan & Eliz was born the first day of May
  • (1778 Aug 9) Ann Reeves D of Jona & Elizh
  • (1787 May 20) Jonathan Reeves (buried)

Some of the children may have died young. There are burials which may match Joseph in the West Ham register. Also Joseph Thomas probably died young given that they re-used those names for later children.

Research Notes

Son Joseph Thomas Reeves may be the one buried at All Hallows Lombard Street, City of London on 25 Mar 1761.
