Narrative

Children of Jonathan Reeves and Mary Clark:
  1. David W. Reeves, b. 1833, m. Sarah A. Miles on 18 May 1854
In 1823 a Jonathan Reeves is recorded as a landowner in Indexed Early Land Ownership and Township Plats, 1785-1898 of Alabama. The property was in the east land district in the northern part of Alabama.

The 1850 census of District 21 in Macon County, Alabama lists a 63 year old Jonathan Reeves whose household includes his 57 year old wife, Mary, and David W. Reeves, 17 years of age. There is no indication of the relationship to David but he is likely a son or possibly grandson.

Jonathan, Mary and David Reeves were listed in Macon County again in the Alabama 1855 State Census Index although that database does not list them by households.

Research Notes

Both Jeremiah Reeves and Jesse Reeves had sons named Jonathan. Making it doubly hard to differentiate between the two, both families lived in Jasper County, Georgia in the early 1800's. The fact that the Jonathan Reeves of the 1850 Macon County, Alabama census named a son David probably after his brother David indicates that he is most likely the son of Jesse Reeves. Additionally the presence of other members of the family of Jesse Reeves such as children of Coleman in Macon County, Alabama and that Jonathan's wife in the 1850 census is Mary, presumably the Mary Clark he married in 1814, substantiates the belief that he was the son of Jesse.

James Coleman Reeves Sr. and Cynthia Reeves (Pride) are also in Macon County during this time period.

One Jonathan Reeves, of Chambers County, Alabama in 1838, gave Malachi Reeves of Cobb County, Georgia power of attorney to sell some land in Cherokee County, Georgia (DB C, p420). This is actually Jonathan Reeves, the brother of the Malachi Reeves referred to in the deed.
