Narrative

Joseph Reeves is the second known child of Richard REEVES and his wife Ann (nee EVANS)).

The birth of Joseph REEVES was registered in the Stourbridge Registration District during the second quarter of 1841. The GRO Index to Births notes his mother's maiden name was EVANS. Joseph's birth certificate confirms he was born on 13 April 1841 at "Round Oak" in the Kingswinford Registrar's District. His father is confirmed as Richard Reeves, a miner, and his mother as Ann Reeves formerly EVANS. The birth was registered by his mother on 11 May 1841 and she made her mark in the register.

Joseph Reeves was baptised at the end of May 1841 at the Parish Church of St Michael, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire. The FreeREG transcript confirms his parents name, his date of birth and give his place of abode as Brierley Hill.

On the 1841 census taken on 6 June, Joseph appears in his parents Richard and Ann living at Crowley Plain, Kingswinford, Staffordshire. His age is recorded as simply 2, rather than "2 months" which might be expected. His older brother John completes the household.

At the time of the 1851 census, on 30 March, Joseph again appears in his parents household at Greets Green, Staffordshire. He is listed as "Josh", he is 10 years old and his place of birth is given as Brierley Hill, Staffordshire. He is the oldest of four children in the household; his older brother John is not at home.

Joseph has yet to be identified on any later census enumeration.

It is highly probable his is the death recorded in the first quarter of 1852 in the West Bromwich Reg. Dist., age 11. There is a corresponding entry at FamilySearch for the burial of a Joseph Reeves, age 11, at Christ Church, West Bromwich. The transcript at FreeREG has the same information, but crucially also notes Joseph's place of abode as "Greets Green".
