Vital Records citing a church baptism record from the Second Church of Rochester (Mattapoisett) from 1809 gives his full name Joseph Fontain Reves and his mother's name as Abiel.

In 1830, some land was deeded to Joseph F. Reeves "In trust & for the sole use and benefit of Abial Reeves wife of John Reeves and mother of the above named Joseph F. Reeves for and during her natural life" and if she should die the land would continue to be held "in trust for the use and benefit of the children of the said Abial Reeves share and share alike."

Wife Sarah appears to have died by 1870.
