Narrative

Levi, the son of John Reeves and his wife Jane (nee Moody) was baptised on 06 April 1806 at the Parish Church of St Mary, South Stoneham in Hampshire.

Levi married Charlotte Crowder on the 30 April 1836 at the Parish Church of All Saints, Botley in Hampshire.

The currently known children of Levi and Charlotte are ....
  1. Jane Reeves, bapt January 1838, Botley
  2. Absolom Reeves, bapt June 1840, Botley
  3. Miriam Reeves, bapt October 1842, Botley
  4. Hiram Reeves, bapt December 1846, Botley
  5. Eli Reeves, bapt August 1849, Botley
  6. Eliza Reeves, born c 1850
  7. Levi Reeves, bapt April 1853, Botley
As will be noted, six of the seven children were baptised at Botley. The only reference, thus far, to a daughter Eliza is the 1851 census. It is possible this is an enumeration transcription error since their son Eli of similar age is missing from the return.

On the 1841 census, Levi with his wife Charlotte and two children Jane and Absolom are living at Boarley Green in the northern part of the tything of Shamblehurst in the parish of South Stoneham. Levi is shown as 30 years of age with no occupation recorded. Levi's younger brother Charles Reeves is living in the same house, although he is enumerated as a separate household on his own.

By the time of the 1851 census, Levi with his wife Charlotte are living together in the West End area (St James ecclesiastical parish) of South Stoneham. There are five children in the household, Jane (13), Absolom (10), Miriam (8), Hiram (4) and youngest daughter Eliza (1). Levi gives his age as 45 and claims birth in Bishop Stoke, Hampshire. His occupation is given as a Rail(way) Lab(ourer).

A decade later and the 1861 census notes Levi as 54 years old and working as an Agricultural Labourer. Along with his wife Charlotte and sons Hiram (15) and Levi (8) they are living at Bramble Cottage on the Botley Road, West End.

At the time of the 1871 census Levi and Charlotte plus sons Eli (21) and Levi (17) are still living on the Botley Road, West End. Levi is now 64 years old and working as a Labourer and still claiming birth in Bishopstoke, Hampshire.

By the time of the 1881 census, wife Charlotte is described as a widow. FreeBMD has a strongly matching Death Registration during the March quarter of 1874 in South Stoneham Registration District, for an individual named Levi aged 68.
