Narrative

According to the register of her baptism, Mary was a twin to Ann Reeves.

Mary does not appear in a family context on the 1841 or 1851 census returns.

Based on age and place of birth, she is in all probability the Mary Reeves residing in the household of the Reverend John Maurice at the Rectory, Michelmersh, Hampshire on the 1851 census, where she was employed as a house servant.

On the 1861 census Mary has strayed to Stoke Damerel in Devon. She appears as a Visitor in the household of John Short and his wife Ann (nee Reeves), Mary's twin sister. Stoke Damerel is now part of the City of Plymouth.

By the time of the 1871 census, Mary was back in Hampshire, and was again working for the clergy. She was living at Tatchbury Mount, Eling and working as a cook in the household of the Rev. Edward Timson (aged 74), who is described as a clergyman of the CofE, without the cure of souls. She is again described as unmarried.

Mary has not be positively identified on the 1881 or subsequent census returns.
