The 1871 census says he was born in France c1817, but there is a baptism record for Pierre, son of Pierre Rive from Varennes where he later married. A Christophe Rive is mentioned as well in the baptism record, probably a witness. This is recorded in a book covering years 1806-1819 and appears to fall under 1815.
