In 1824, Richard sold his portion of the land from the orphan's court division of his father's land to Thomas and Samuel Reeve, presumably his brothers. At the same time, his sister Martha sold hers to them as well.

Richard mentions in his will his wife Sarah and all of his children besides Emeline who predeceased him.

His widow Sarah wrote her will in May 1834 and it was proved 22 Sep 1834. She mentions her daughter Elizabeth Haines, granddaughter Sarah Haines, son Mahlon Reeves, son John Reeves, and daughters Martha, Esther, and Mary Reeves.
