Narrative

In the widow's pension record, his wife gives some details of his life:
  • He was a private under Lieutenant Bawlden of the SC Troops and was honorably discharged at New Orleans, LA
  • At the time he entered service, he was 25 years old, a farmer living in North Carolina, about 6 ft, light hair, blue eyes, and fair complexion
  • Widow states she was married to Richard Reeves as Sarah Ann Schott on 17 Aug 1850 by Hampton Busby in Shelby County, Alabama
  • Richard's first wife died at the close of the war in South Carolina. A second wife died in Shelby Co., Alabama about 1849
  • Richard died at Nectar, Blount Co., Alabama on 20th May 1875
  • Richard and Sarah lived in Shelby County until 1870, then moved to Blounty Co., Ala.

Note that the marriage record gives her name as Sarah A. Tipper and gives the marriage date as 17 Aug 1858. She was likely a widow.

The discharge paper included in the record signed by Capt. Henry Garrett states that Richard was enlisted by Capt Dabney of the 43rd Infantry on 27 Apr 1814. That he was born in Guilford County, North Carolina and was 25 years old.

The offices could never find him on any rolls and it appears the widow was never given a pension.

Research Notes

This may be the same individual as Richard Reeves of Autauga County.
