From the Alabama land records, Thomas Reeves is recorded as being issued a land patent for 78 acres in Greene County on 2 Jul 1827, although he was probably present in the area at least 10 years prior to that date based upon the places of birth of older children. This patent is recorded in the deed books, Thomas Reeves being described as "of Greene County." In 1829, he and his wife Rosannah sold this land to James B. Tutt.
