Confederate war records list Thompson Reeves as enlisting as a private in Co. H, 11th Regiment of Georgia Infantry on 3 Jul 1861 at Atlanta, Georgia. On 16 Dec 1861, he was discharged on a surgeon's certificate of disability.

Note: In the 1870 census of Lamar County, Texas, his name is listed as "Charles" Reeves so presumably his full name was Charles Thompson Reeves.
