Narrative

Children of William Reeves and Nancy:
  1. George W Reeves, b. c1846
  2. Polly Ann Reeves, b. 1849

William Reeves is located on the 1850 census in Dekalb County Alabama living with Wife Nancy and 2 children. The 1850 census states that he was born in Georgia. by 1860, William's wife and children are living with the family of Daniel and Mary Reeves also located in Dekalb County Alabama. The families are combined and I am sure that at least one of the other children belong to William, possibly more.

When the 1860 census was taken, Nancy Reeves and her children are listed in the household of Daniel and Mary Reeves both of whom were born in South Carolina. Also listed in that household are the following children whose parents are not clearly identified:
  1. James Reeves, b. 1851
  2. Caroline Reeves, b. 1853
  3. Nancy Reeves, b. 1854
  4. Martha Reeves, b. 1856
  5. William Reeves, b. 1860, 8 months of age
  6. Sarah E. Reeves, b. 1860, 5 months of age

The 1866 Alabama Census of DeKalb County lists a Nancy Reeves with two children, one male and one female, between the ages of 10 and 20 which appear to be Nancy, widow of William Reeves.

Research Notes

William is listed on the 1850 census as William RIVES.

based on the age of William and Nancy's first child, it can be estimated that they were married about 1845.

Other than the 1850 Census, I can find no other reference to William. I have been unable to locate any information that could help to verify parents, or distinguish between his children and the children of Daniel and Mary Reeves that the rest of his family was living with in 1860.

There are currently no other known records for the family of this William Reeves. His surname is listed incorrectly as Rives in the 1850 census but all other members of this extended family's names are recorded as Reeves in subsequent census.

The use of the given names Stephen and Daniel in close residences of District 25 of DeKalb County in 1850 and William's wife Nancy and children living in the home of Daniel Reeves in 1860 appear to suggest that they may have been members of the Reeves' family of Revolutionary War soldier Daniel Reeves. The families of several of Daniel Reeves' sons have never been identified and thoroughly researched.

In the 1860 Census of Daniel Reeves' DeKalb County household there are several other children listed above who may also be children of William and Nancy but the census does not clearly indicate the parents of those children.
