The Baptismal Register notes the family were from the hamlet of Gotherington which is in the north of the parish of Bishops Cleeve and that his father was a labourer.

James Reeves married Hannah THORNBOROUGH in October 1836, after banns, at the Parish Church of St James, Alveston, Warwickshire.

On the 1841 census taken on 6 June, William and Hannah were living in Hampton Lucy, Warwickshire. His age is recorded as 25 and he was not born within the county. He is working as an agricultural labourer. There are no other members of their household.

At the time of the 1851 census, on 30 March, William and Hannah are to be found in the adjacent parish of Alveston, Warwickshire. He is 37 years old, claims birth in Gotherington, Gloucestershire and is working as an Agricultural Labourer. Their three children William (age 9), Ann (7) and Eliza (4) complete the household.

A decade later and the 1861 census shows William and Hannah Reeve (sic) living at Baraset Cottages in Alveston. William's age and place of birth remain consistent and his occupation is now given as a Shepherd. The household comprises their children Samuel (age 10, who was dumb from birth), Frederick (sic, Alfred, 6) and George (4) along with Elizabeth THORNBOROUGH (age 57) whose relationship is given as Sister in law which has been over-written with Visitor.

A Hannah Reeves of Alveston, almost certainly William's wife, was buried at the Parish Church of St James, Alveston in February 1864, age 49. FreeBMD has a corresponding death registration for Hannah Reeves, age 49, in the Stratford on Avon Registration District during the first quarter of 1864.

In June 1866 William Reeves, a Widower, married Jane Crozier, a Widow, at the Parish Church of St James, Alveston. William is described as a Shepherd and names his father as Samuel REEVES whose occupation was Poulterer. Jane names her father was David DAVIS, a Sculptor. Jane signs the register and William makes his mark.

On the 1871 census, William and Jane are living in the hamlet of Tiddington, the parish of Alveston, Warwickshire. He is now 56 years old and again claims birth in Gotherington, Gloucestershire. His occupation is recorded as a Dairy man. His sons Samuel (20 and now categorised as an imbecile), George (14) and Harry (sic, Henry, 9) complete the household.

At the time of the 1881 census, William is again to be found in Tiddington. He is now described as a widower, age 67 and he claims birth in Bishops Cleeve, Gloucestershire. He is a Farmer of 5 acres. His daughter Ann (age 37, a Ladies Maid), Samuel (30 and again described as dumb from birth) and George (24, a Gardener) live with him, along with servant Ellen Bartlam (58, unmarried).

On the 1891 census, William remains in Tiddington with his age and place of birth consistent with 1881. He is now described as a Retired Dairyman. The household is completed by Ellen Bartlam, whose relationship is now described as Housekeeper.

William has not been identified on the 1901 census. The burial of William Reeves, of Tiddington, age 86, is recorded in the Parish Register of St James, Alveston in November 1898. FreeBMD notes a corresponding death registration during the fourth quarter of 1898 in the Stratford on Avon Registration District.
