On the 1841 census taken on 6 June, Samuel and Elizabeth are to be found in Gotherington. Samuel's age is recorded as 65 years old and was born in county (that is to say in Gloucestershire). His occupation is again given as a Poulterer. The third member of the household is another Samuel Reeves, age 20, most probably their son Samuel.
In November 1846, Samuel's son Samuel was married in nearby Cheltenham. Samuel declared his father Samuel's occupation as a Poulterer.
At the time of the 1851 census, on 30 March, Samuel and Betty Reeves are again to be found in Gotherington. Samuel is now 79 years of age and gives his place of birth as Gotherington, Gloucestershire. His occupation (and that of the other adult family members) is Poulterer. In addition to his wife Betty (sic, Elizabeth) (age 64, born Harperly, sic Apperley, Gloucestershire) are his son Samuel Reeves, daughter in law Ann and eleven month old grandson William Reeves. The household is completed by a 15 year old servant, Daniel Jenners.
A decade later and the 1861 census shows Samuel's wife Elizabeth as a widow in the home of their son Samuel. The burial of Samuel Reeves, of Gotherington, age 81, is recorded in the Parish Burial Register of St Michael and All Saints, Bishops Cleeve in March 1853. The GRO Index to Deaths notes a corresponding death registration during the first quarter of 1853 in the Winchcomb Registration District, but with age 82
