William Henry REEVES is the fourth known child of Robert Henry Reeves and his wife Agnes (nee COOMBES). His birth was registered in the second quarter of 1897 in the Highworth Registration District.

At the time of the 1901 census, he is listed as simply William Reeves in his parents home at Badbury Bottom, Badbury, Wiltshire. He is 4 years old and his place of birth is shown as Chisledon (sic Chiseldon), Wiltshire.

On the 1911 census, he is again living at home. He was initially recorded as William H. Reeves; his second given name was subsequently added in a different handwriting using the common abbreviation of Hy. He is 13 years old and was born at Badbury, Wiltshire. He is still at school.

William's death is recorded on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's website.   As Private 20874 he was serving with 14th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment in France and died in May 1916, aged 19. He was buried in the St Vaast Post Military Cemetery near the village of Richebourg-L'Avoue which is in the département of Pas De Calais in northern France (FR-62).   The CWGC additionally notes "Son of Robert H. and Agnes Reeves".

William's sacrifice, along with that of his elder brother Montague John, is recorded on the Memorial Plaque in the Parish Church of The Holy Cross, Chiseldon, Wiltshire. See also Research Note 1
