Narrative
From Reliques of the Rives:Francis Everod Rives, b. Jan. 14, 1792; m. Oct. 10, 1833, Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Pegram, but d. s. p., Dec. 26, 1861, at his home, "Littleton," Sussex co. Va. Francis E. Rives was appointed an Ensign in Sept. 1812, in the 62nd Regt., 8th Battalion, 4th Division of Virginia militia, serving in that capacity in the War of 1812. He later studied and practiced law in Petersburg. In 182 1 he was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates from Prince George county, serving for a period of ten consecutive years, at the end of which time he was elected to the Virginia Senate and served five years, or until 1836. He was then elected, as a member of the Democratic party, during two successive terms to the House of Representatives of the United States, serving in the 25th and 26th Congresses, Mch. 4, 1837-Mch. 3, 1841. Declining the renomination tendered him, he resumed his seat in the Virginia Senate in the years, 1848-1851.

Death of Hon. Francis E. Rives.
PETERSBERG, Dec. 26. - The Hon. Francis E. Rives of Petersburg died today.
It appears that his mother and probably most of his siblings were living in his household in 1840. A Charles S. Rives, b. c1813, was living with him later, relationship unknown.
