Howard Pendleton Rives, who was born May 6, 1888, was graduated in law from Cumberland University in 1913 and was admitted to the Kentucky bar the same year, following which he was associated with his brother-in—law, Judge E. B. Beard, in the law firm of Beard & Rives at Shelbyville, Ky., until 1916. On Sept. 22, 1915, he was commissioned a Captain of infantry in the Kentucky National Guard, serving on the Mexican border in 1916 and 1917 with Co. K, 1st Ky. Inf. From 1917 to his discharge from the army on February 12, 1920, he served with the 38th Division in the United States and overseas in the A. E. F. After his discharge be returned to Shelbyville and resumed the practice of law as a member of the firm of Kinsolving, Rives & Smith until 1925 when he removed to Clearwater, Fla., where he continued the practice of law as a member of the firm of Kelley, Rives & Castle. Capt. Rives died April 25, 1927, following an operation for appendicitis.
Death record states he died in 1889.
