From Reliques of the Rives:
“69 years old, popularly known as ‘Pet’ Rives, died yesterday afternoon (Jan. 9, 1923) at 4.10 o’clock at his home at Maxon Mill of Bright's disease and complications. He had been seriously ill for several weeks. Mr. Rives for many years was the proprietor of a general store at Maxon Mill, but retired from active business two years ago. He was also a large land owner in the county. He was born and reared near Maxon Mill. Besides his widow, Mrs. Dovie Rives, he is survived by one son, Wayne Rives, and one daughter, Miss Mamie Rives, who is seriously ill, all of Maxon Mill and three brothers, Jeff D. Rives, of La. Center; Mert Rives and William (Dick) Rives, of Maxon Mill. Mr. Rives was a member of the McKendree Methodist church at Lamont.”
