Rev. James Dandridge Rives was born in Lincoln county, Tennessee in 1841 and was brought up by an aunt and an uncle. His life was spent in Middle Tennessee as a public school teacher and Baptist preacher. He was a teacher of unusual ability and like other members of his family, a forceful and eloquent public speaker. Rev. James D. Rives married in 1865, Mary Frances Tucker, daughter of Dr. Daniel and Nancy (Higgins) Tucker, of Fayetteville, Tenn. Mrs. Rives died in Holdenville, Oklahoma, in December 1911, and her husband died there March 14, 1914.
