From Reliques of the Rives:
Thomas Rives, the eldest son by the second marriage of Thomas Henry Rives to Mary Edwards, was born in Dinwiddie county, Vir ginia, about 1770. He was brought up in Mecklenburg county, Virginia, removing later to Chatham county, North Carolina, with his father who died there in 1809. After the custom of the time, Thomas Rives had received land from his father before the latter's death. As early as 1810 the records show him as the owner of 10 slaves in Chatham county.
In 1811, following the death of his father, Thomas Rives removed with his family to Jones county, Georgia, and settled six miles from the Ocmulgee River which, at that time, was the dividing line be tween the Creek Indians and the whites. In 181 7 he removed to Jackson county, Georgia, and settled three miles north of Jefferson ; but remained there only a short while, finally making his home near Bark Camp in Hall county, Georgia. The date of his death is not known; his great-great -grandson, Col. Homer V. Johnson, Clerk of the Court of Hall county, having informed the writer that there is no record of his will or of the administration of his estate among the Hall county records. Thomas Rives married about 1793, Susanna Thweatt, of Dinwiddie county, Virginia, whose mother appears to have been a Miss Edmundson.

Land records show that Thomas received 300 acres of land in Jackson County through two 1815 land warrants. He also was deeded some land there in 1817 and granted land in 1818. He sold some of this land in 1820.
