Lancaster Co., VA
History
Lancaster is located on the Northern Neck near the mouth of the Rappahannock River and was formed from York and Northumberland Counties in 1651. At the time it spanned both sides of the Rappahannock and extended into what is now West Virginia. The General Assembly eventually created sixteen of the modern-day Virginia counties, along with three counties now in West Virginia, from land that belonged at one time in Lancaster County.Modern Day Adjacent Counties
