IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I John Ball Senr. Of the County of Essex and parish of South farnham being in perfect sense and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following. Imprimis I give to my son John Ball the sum of Eighty five pounds Current money of Virginia to be paid to him by my three Youngest sons William Austin and Carter in Lieu of his part of my land Item I give to my three Youngest sons William Austin and Carter all my land to be divided amongst them as follows to my son William I give the lower part of my land adjoining to Abner Ball William Latane & Joseph Reeves up to a line of marked trees that I have made to him and his heirs forever; to my son Austin I give all that part of my land that lyes (sic) over the swamp adjoining to James Booker Robert Lumpkin & Thrusivellus Minor to him & his heirs forever to my son Carter I give my dwelling house and all the uper part of my land adjoining to Mr. Hoskins and Tandy Dix down to the aforesaid line of marked trees which is the dividing line betwext him & my son William to him and his heirs forever they or their Heirs to pay my son John Ball each aproportionable part of Eighty five pounds Currt money which I have given him in lieu of his part of my land; but it is my desire that my loving wife Patience Ball should live on my son Carters part of my land during her widowhood never to be Interrupted nor thirded but if she should marry then she is only to enjoy one third part of my son Carters land during her life Item I give to my daughter Elizabeth one good feather Bed and Furniture Item I give to my daughter Henrietta one good Feather Bed and furniture Item I lend all the rest residue and remainder of my Estate to my loving wife Patience Ball for and during her natural life provided she does not marry but if she does then She is only to have one third part and the other two thirds to be Equally divided amongst my four daughters Mary Susanna Elizabeth and Henrietta and at my wife’s death the whole of her part of my Estate to be Equally divided amongst my daughters as aforesaid their heirs forever & it is my desire that daughter Henrietta should have the Negro girl Phillis in her part of Estate, Lastly I constitute & appoint my three sons William Ball Austin Ball & Carter Ball Executors of this my last will & Testament hereby revoking all other will or wills by me heretofore made IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and Seals this 26 day of January 1777

At a Court held for Essex County at Tapp.a on the 19th Day of July 1779 This last will and Testament of John Ball Deced was presented into Court by two of the Exors who made oath thereto & being also proved by John Gatewood & Joseph Gatewood two of the witnesses thereto is ordered to be recorded
