Introduction

The Grathwohl Collection contains a number of verbatim transcriptions of various unrecorded deeds held by families of Southold. This deed from the Grathwohl Collection is Land Item #162 in Baker's Study of the Reeve Family.

Transcript

This Indenture made the thirty first day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven Hundred and Eighty nine between John Reeve of Southold in the county of Suffolk and State of New York yeoman of the one part and John Corwin 3d of the same place of the other part Witneseeth that the said John Reeve for and in consideration of the sum of fifty pounds currant money of New York to him in hand paid before the ensealing and delivery hereof by the said John Corwin the receipt whereof he the said John Reeve doth hereby acknowledge and himself to be therewith fully satisfied contented & paid and thereof and every part thereof doth acquit and Discharge the said John Corwin his Exeoutors and Administrators by these presents Hath granted Bargained and sold and doth by these presents for himself and his heirs grant bargain sell alien and confim unto the said John Corwin his heirs and assigns forever fully freely and absolutely all that tract or parcel of meadow Lying & being in Southold afforesaid near the mouth of gardiners crick so called which my father Gave to me in his Last will and testament Reference thereunto being had may more fully appeare and bounded as follows on the North by the said crick on the south by the bay and on the West by the upland of my brother James Reeve it is to be understood all my rite of meadow at that place is sold to gether with all profits advantages Hereditiments and Appurtenances whatsoever to the said premises in any wise belonging and all the Right title Interest Claim & Demand whatsoever of him the said John Reeve of in and to the said premises and Every part thereof To have & to hold all and singular the above granted premises and every part there of with the appurtenances unto the said John Corwin his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of him the said John Corwin his heirs and assigns for ever and the said John Reeve for himself his heirs Executors and administrators Doth covenant & agree to and with the said John Corwin his heirs and Assigns by these presents that at and before the Enseallng and delivery hereof he stood lawfully seazed of the above bargained premises and Every part thereof with a good sure perfect and Indeseazable Estate of Inheritance and that the same where free and clear of all Incumbrances whatsoever and further that the said John Reeve and his heirs the above bargained Premises and Every part thereof against himself and his heirs and against all and Every other person or persons whatsoever Lawfully claiming the same unto the said John Corwin his heirs A assigns shall and will warrant and for ever Defend by these Presents and Keziah the wife of the said John Reeve acknowledges her self a part to these presents In witness whereof of the the parties to these presents have hereunto lnterchangably set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first above written

This may Certify all whom it may concern that I anna Reeve
Widow of James Reeve Esquire Deceased do hereby Quit all my
rite of Dower or power of thirds or all or any Claim whatsoever
to that certain tract or parcel of Salt meadow or Thatch
ground which my son John Reeve has Lately sold and conveyed
to Mr John Corwin 3d which deed bears even Date with these
presents and do hereby signify the same by setting my hand
and seal the thirty first day of December one thousand seven
Hundred and Eighty nine
