Transcript

This is the last Will and Testament of me John Reeve of the Parish of Laindon in the County of Essex Labourer made in the time of my Health and Strength of memory
First I direct that all my just debts funeral expences and also the charges of proving this my will and incident thereto be paid out of my personal estate by my executor And I do give and devise and bequeath unto my Brother Ambrose Reeve of Laindon aforesaid straw and coal carter all that my copyhold messuage now occupied as two tenements in my own occupation and the occupation of Mary Ramsey widow with the Garden and appurtenances thereto belonging situate by the side of Laindon Common in the parish of Laindon aforesaid and holden of the manor of Layndon by copy of court Roll to hold unto the said Ambrose Reeve and his heirs upon and for the trusts following that is to say upon trust that he the said Ambrose Reeve and his heirs do and shall permit and suffer my wife Elizabeth and her assigns to reside in and occupy the said messuage and premises in which I now live and every part thereof during her natural life and upon trust to pay to my said wife or otherwise permit and suffer her to receive and takes the rents and profits of the tenement now in the occupation of the said Mary Ramsey for and during the term of her natural life and from and immediately after her decease upon trust to sell and dispose of the said messuage and premises by public auction or private contract as to him shall seem best and after payment of the expences attending such sale upon trust to pay and divide the surplus money to arise therefrom unto between and amongst my three daughters Elizabeth Cotton, wife of James Cotton of Wickham market in the County of Suffolk Wheelwright, Ann Janaway, wife of William Janaway of Uppoer Footing in the County of Surrey Gardener and Hannah Reeve wife of John Reeve of Laindon aforesaid carpenter in equal parts shares and proportions to be paid into their own proper hands whose receipt alone for the same notwithstanding her or their coverture respectively shall be a sufficient discharge for the payment thereof and in case either of my said daughters shall die without leaving lawful issue then I direct that the money to arise as aforesaid shall go to and be paid to the survivor or survivors of them but in case either of my said children shall die leaving lawful issue then I direct the parts or shares of her or them so dying shall be paid to the issue of her or them so dying in equal shares and proportions upon their respectively attaining the age of twenty one years and I hereby declare and direct that the receipt or receipts of the said Ambrose Reeve and his heirs shall be a good and sufficient discharge to the purchaser or purchasers of the said premises or any part thereof for any purchase money he or they may so receive and that the purchaser or purchasers shall not be called upon to see to the application of such purchase money or any part thereof nor be answerable or accountable in any wise for the missaplication or nonapplication thereof or any part thereof and I direct the said Ambrose Reeve and his heirs to deduct out of the monies that shall come to his or their hands all costs charges expences attending the execution of the aforesaid trusts and declare that he or they shall not be liable for any loss or damage to my said trust property without his or their wilful default and I do give and Bequeath unto the said Ambrose Reeve his executors and administrators all my household furniture and other personal estate upon trust to permit and suffer my said wife and her assigns to have the use thereof for her life and immediately after her decease to sell and dispose of the same and to pay distribute and divide the money to arise therefrom after payment of expences attending the disposal thereof unto and between my said three daughters and their issue in the same manner in all respects as the money arising from my said copyhold estate is hereinbefore directed to be devided and I hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said Ambrose Reeve executor and my said wife Elizabeth executrix of this my will and hereby revoking all former wills by me heretofore made do declare this to be and contain my last will and Testament In witness whereof I the said John Reeve the testator have to this my will contained in one sheet of paper set my hand and seal the thirteenth day of November in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and twenty four.

Proved on the 19th November 1842 pending the episcopal visitation before the Revd John Thomas Clerk surrogate &c by the oath of Ambrose Reeve the surviving executor above named to whom Admon &c was granted he being first sworn duly to Administer.


The Eleventh day of Novr 1842 Ambrose Reeve of Laindon the executor within named (the executrix Elizth Reeve, also within named having departed this life) and brother in law of the testator, was sworn to the truth of this will, and to the true performance thereof and to the best of his knowledge or belief, the goods chattels and credits of the deceased do not amount to the sum of forty pounds
