John's will is dated 13 Nov 1824 and was probated on the 19 Nov 1842. The probate states he died in Laindon on 31 Oct 1842. The probate states that his wife Elizabeth, the first executor, had died and so his brother-in-law Ambrose, the other named executor, was granted administration. Note that he refers to Ambrose as brother in his will, but this is clarified as brother-in-law in the probate. In his will, he mentions:
  • my Brother Ambrose Reeve of Laindon
  • Mary Ramsey widow
  • my wife Elizabeth
  • my three daughters Elizabeth Cotton, wife of James Cotton of Wickham market in the County of Suffolk Wheelwright, Ann Janaway, wife of William Janaway of Upper Footing in the County of Surrey Gardener and Hannah Reeve wife of John Reeve of Laindon

In 1841, John was living in Laindon, age 76, born in County. Ambrose was the only other person in the household.
